Born in Los Angeles, California; Fred Hameetman is Chairman of the American Group, which comprises approximately 50 companies, corporations and partnerships. Cal-American Corporation, a general partner of nine Cal-American Income Property Funds, currently oversees the management of more than $500,000,000 of real estate, representing over a million square feet of commercial and residential real estate in California and Washington. As an angel investor, Mr. Hameetman supports emerging technologies with a mission statement of providing efficiency and opportunities to consumers and business entrepreneurs.
Mr. Hameetman earned a Bachelor of Arts from Occidental College (’61) and a Bachelor of
Science from the California Institute of Technology (’62). He later received a Masters of Science in Engineering from the University of Southern California (’64). Mr. Hameetman married his Narbonne High School sweetheart, Joyce Loedige, in 1963. They have two sons, both married and law school graduates. After graduating from Occidental and Caltech, Mr. Hameetman went to work at Douglas Aircraft as an Aerophysicist and Engineering Supervisor. At Douglas, he supervised the hyper-velocity impulse tunnel, a high speed wind tunnel, generating steady state conditions for 1/100 th of a second at speeds up to Mach 30. In this tunnel, testing was conducted on anti-missile defense missiles and atmosphere re-entry vehicles, the predecessor of our space shuttles. Mr. Hameetman was with Hayden, Stone & Co., a New York Stock Exchange member; vice-president of Carlsberg Equities; and vice president of Funds International; before buying the first of the American Group of companies in 1971. Mr. Hameetman holds memberships in the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, the National Multi Housing Council, the Urban Land Institute, the Galactic Center Board at UCLA, the Young Presidents Organization—Graduates (three years as Chair, during which time he was responsible for a cost effective education program that sustained the YPOG during a period of no new members), the World Presidents Organization, the Bel Air Bay Club, and the Founders of the Music Center. He is also a board member of CEO, the only independent global
organization for champions of YPO. Mr. Hameetman is affiliated with several academic institutions, serving in the Parent’s
Associations of Harvard-Westlake School, Princeton University, and Duke University; The Associates of the California Institute of Technology; the UCLA Chancellor’s Associates; the USC Alumni Association; and as a trustee of California Institute of Technology (JPL Committee), Occidental College, and The Hameetman Foundation. Mr. Hameetman and his wife chaired the first (and only) & "Seminar to the Future"; at Caltech and JPL. The Hameetmans are the lead
donors for the Hameetman Science Center and the Hameetman Career Center at Occidental College and for the Hameetman Auditorium and the Hameetman Center at Caltech. Mr.Hameetman is on the leadership board of International Medical Corps, and, in 2016, he and his wife were the recipients of its Humanitarian Award.
