The inaugural GlobeSt. Women of Influence Conference celebrates the women who drive the commercial real estate industry forward. These influential leaders will discuss the critical issues facing CRE now and in the future, what it means to be a woman in business today and CRE’s place in the #MeToo era. They will discuss what they are doing to promote diversity in the upper levels of management and what the industry can do to position itself for a more inclusive future.

This premier event puts owners, investors, developers, lenders, brokers and service providers in contact with some of the leading female executives in commercial real estate.

In this interactive workshop, a panel of CRE leaders who have implemented successful women’s initiatives in their organizations will share how they’ve created women’s networks. Attendees will then break into groups and discuss strategies to create a mock women’s initiative for an organization. After a half hour of discussion and collaboration, panelists will invite representatives from each group to the stage to review their strategies and share their findings.

In this fireside chat, a high-profile CRE leader discusses the struggles of being a woman in business today. Collete English-Dixon, executive director of Roosevelt University’s Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate, and real estate chair of the university's Heller College of Business, discusses how to “Have It All” as an established professional, mentor and family woman, who is currently working to groom the next generation of real estate leaders at one of the most prestigeous business schools in the country.

11:45 AM - 12:45 PM | Uncovering the CRE Gender Gap & Overcoming Unconscious Bias

Although the number of female leaders in CRE is slowly increasing, there’s still a clear disparity when it comes to treatment of women in these roles, whether in the form of pay equity or other discrimination. In this session, the women of real estate will discuss the gender gap within the industry and how to overcome obstacles related to bias along the way.

2:45 PM - 3:45 PM | Changing the Game: Mentoring & Sponsoring the Next Generation of Women in Real Estate

In this community-building exercise, a panel of CRE leaders will share strategies for mentoring & sponsoring young women in real estate. Attendees will then break into groups to discuss topics in mentorship and sponsorship. After a 20 minutes of discussion and collaboration, panelists will invite representatives from each group to the stage to review their strategies and share their findings.

As President and Chief Executive Officer of The Richland Companies, Edna Meyer-Nelson directs all business activities for Richland's many divisions. Since founding The Richland Companies in 1993, she has amassed a portfolio of 35 properties in five states representing more than 2.5 million square feet of commercially owned and managed property throughout the Southwestern United States valued in excess of $250 million. She began her career in the banking industry where she served as Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer, and Marketing Director for several of the larger banks in Houston, such as: Great Southern Bank, Fondren Southwest Bank, American National Bank and Charter Bank. During her tenure, Meyer-Nelson's duties included initiating commercial, small business and real estate loans, as well as executive lines of credit. While managing over $50 million in assets, she also assisted in the buy-outs of several independent banks, initiated and incorporated new, cost effective programs, and actively encouraged executive women to enter new business ventures.

Lainie P. Minnick, Managing Director, serves as Chief Financial Officer of Black Creek Diversified Property Fund. Ms. Minnick is primarily responsible for developing, executing and managing corporate and property level financing and interest rate hedging strategies, managing lending relationships across platforms, and providing certain treasury management oversight for Industrial Property Trust and Black Creek Industrial REIT IV.
