AAPL’s 7th Annual Conference is one of the largest events dedicated to private lending, the Conference provides strategic, industry-specific education, distinguished speakers, valuable sessions, unlimited networking engagements, and so much more for professionals across real estate servicing.

The main conference runs from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon. Various education courses are available on Sunday with  separate registration.

AAPL is providing a great opportunity for you to add value to your Conference experience by offering live, classroom-style courses for members and non-members on Sunday, November 13.

Education and Networking

AAPL members who attend the 2016 Annual Conference are eligible to participate in professional designation training: Certified Private Lender Associate (CPLA) and Certified Fund Manager (CFM).

Completion of professional designation training indicates the members:

Achieved industry recognition and set themselves apart from their peers.
Gained an up-to-date understanding of federal laws and regulatory issues specifically affecting the private lending industry.
Developed a strong foundation and technique for better underwriting and servicing of loans.
Ensured business and documentation are compliant and adhere to industry best practices.
Private Lender Associate: The CPLA designation provides a comprehensive overview of the principles of private lending. It also includes detailed information on the current federal laws and regulations surrounding the industry. Upon successful completion of the full day course, AAPL members in good standing will be entitled to use the CPLA designation and logo, demonstrating their  commitment to education and their desire to achieve industry excellence. The CPLA requires annual membership and continuing education.

Fund Manager: The CFM designation bridges industry practices, investment theory, and ethical and professional standards to provide investment analysis and portfolio management skills. This intensive four-stage course, designed by industry veterans, will help you answer the question, “Is a mortgage fund my next growth opportunity?” Topics include: Mortgage Pool Fundamentals - Vision and Execution; How to Structure, Capitalize and Administer a Mortgage Pool Fund; Creation and Launching of the Fund; and on-going Fund Administration. The CFM requires annual membership and continuing education.

Eddie Wilson President Affinity Enterprise Group
Eddie graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Broadcast Sales and Marketing. He also studied marketing at Georgia Tech and business management at Emory University. He is most known for taking a talk radio station in Atlanta to the level of “Most Listened To Station in the World” (Radio and Records Magazine, 2002). He has owned his own advertising agency and worked with clients including Pepsi, P&G, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Mail America. Robert J. Buchanan Managing Partner CCG Capital
Robert J. Buchanan is the other driving force behind the CCG family of companies. Through CCG (formerly Pride of Austin) Robert is a manager of a Regulation D Security Private Lending High Yield Fund. His management skills with underwriting, loan servicing and property management are the envy of his peers in the private lending industry. Robert has an innate ability to sift through financial information while underwriting a loan and find the missing penny. As if he is a forensic underwriter, he easily finds discrepancies in information provided by borrowers which enables the managers to make solid lending decisions. Robert has served as President of the real estate development and construction company Pride of Austin Home, LLC, since May 2007. Under Robert’s direction, Pride of Austin Homes utilizes cutting-edge technology in all its projects. Jeffrey Tesch is responsible for the day-to-day operations of RCN Capital LLC, including sales growth initiatives, underwriting review with compliance oversight and leadership of senior level strategic planning. Joining the Company in 2010, Tesch led efforts to develop a national brand in private lending with the best practices and transparent products for a diverse customer base. Alex McNair Director of Correspondent Lending Lima One Capital
Alex has over 30 years of experience in the real estate and financial services industries. He began his career with roles in business development, leasing and sales for both the Paragon Group, Inc. and The Bissell Companies in Charlotte, North Carolina. After completing business school in 1996 he joined Carolina Securities, a NC based investment banking firm. There he managed private debt and equity placements for clients across the country. Prior to joining Lima One, McNair served for 15 years in various sales and leadership roles Marsh & McLennan Companies as a specialist in their real estate and financial services practices. McNair holds a B.A. from Wake Forest University and an MBA from the McColl School of Business. Susan Naftulin President Rehab Financial Group
Susan is co-founder of Rehab Financial Group, LP and currently holds the title of President. Prior to forming RFG, Susan has held several senior management positions in the mortgage industry, including General Counsel, Managing Attorney, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President for both privately and publicly held mortgage lenders. In each of these positions, Susan was responsible for multiple aspects of the company, including loan origination and documentation, licensing and regulatory compliance, servicing, default management, litigation management and human resources. Susan also serves on the American Association of Private Lenders Ethics Advisory Committee where she continuously upholds the real estate industry’s values and supports professional conduct in private lending. John S. Warren Founder & CEO Lima One Capital
John Warren is the founder and CEO of Lima One Capital, a national lender for residential real estate investors specializing in financing of Fix and Flip projects and rental properties. He also was a principal in the acquisition and sale of over 1,400 rental properties in Atlanta to Blackstone Group for over $100M. In a former life he was a decorated infantry officer in the Marine Corps, leading over 300 combat missions in Iraq. He speaks regularly on U.S. foreign policy, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

Kaddah is an entrepreneurial business leader with a broad-based background in leading firms through complex environments. A strategic thinker and effective communicator, Kaddah formerly served Ernst & Young as Director of Global Operations and Technology Leadership. He was also a director at GE Transportation and was Chief Technology Officer for First Horizon’s subprime lending division, bringing their proprietary LOS and AUS system online. Co-workers call him an inspiring leader with experience in mergers & acquisitions, emerging technology, ERP, Six Sigma, and global operations. Kellen Jones Cache Private Capital Chief Strategic Officer
Kellen Jones, as the Chief Operations Officer, is responsible for creating, communicating, executing, and sustaining all primary operations within CPC. Mr. Jones is responsible for critical jobs such as advising on company product development and internal lending procedures, ensuring a healthy loan pipeline, meeting company loan objectives, and bringing new strategic initiatives to the company. Mr. Jones’ ability to tap into his creativity, strategic ability and management skills have impacted lending modalities from streamlining private lending systems, placement of funds, and effectiveness of exit strategies. Mike Hanna CEO Investmark Mortgage
Mike Hanna is a real estate investor, hard money lender, mentor, and public speaker. He has been an active real estate investor since 2002 in both single family and multi-family properties, and has been in the hard money business since 2005. Altogether, he has completed over 1000 transactions. He is the group leader of one of the premier real estate mastermind groups in all of North Texas. Mike is a member of the American Association of Private Lenders (AAPL), is a Certified Private Lender, and is a member of the AAPL Ethics Advisory Committee. He is also the owner/principal of Investmark Mortgage, LLC, which is an award winning hard money lender with offices in North Texas and Central Texas. Mike is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma.
Erica LaCentra Marketing Manager RCN Capital
Erica is responsible for planning, developing and implementing RCN Capital’s strategic marketing plan. Joining the company in 2013, Erica’s efforts have rapidly expanded RCN’s customer base and elevated the company to a national brand. Erica handles the creation of the company’s traditional and digital media, the management of paid search advertising, social media marketing and email marketing as well as the coordination of tradeshow sponsorships and event involvement. Carrie Cook CEO Preferred Trust Company
Carrie holds three executive level roles consecutively as President of Ignite Funding, CEO of Preferred Trust Company and COO of iManagement Group Shared Services. Ignite Funding was founded in 1995 as a traditional home mortgage lender providing lending to home buyers, the demand for lending from homebuilders and developers reshaped our business in 2011 as Carrie assumed the role as President. Since her appointment, Cook has led the team to fund more than $315 million loans with Investor capital. Cook currently manages a capital client database totaling more than $85 million in real estate investments and is a licensed Mortgage Broker with the Nevada Mortgage Lending Division. As Chief Executive Officer of Preferred Trust Company since August 2014, Cook redeveloped the custodial services business, ensuring clients effectively and accurately utilize their retirement funds to invest in alternatives such as real estate, metals and LLCs. Cook oversees the custody of approximately $250 million in client investments and cash holdings. Jake Hallahan
Jacob comes to us with a diverse background. Jacob has a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Illinois flagship campus at Urbana/Champaign. This background and education has given him a unique perspective when analyzing and underwriting projects for A List Partners. Jacob has experience in commercial property management, as well as sales and leasing for a commercial retail real estate portfolio for a family of companies located in Chicago, Illinois. Additionally, Jake lends a unique perspective with experience in digital marketing, sales, and customer service in the automobile industry. Starting his association with A List Partners Management as a portfolio manager, Jacob has quickly learned the private lending profession. He has earned his Certified Private Lender Associate (CPLA) designation and his Certified Fund Manager (CFM) designation from American Association of Private Lenders. Currently, Jacob serves as a managing member of A List Partners Management, LLC with concentration on managing EB5 projects as well as focusing on building relationships with EB5 investors, foreign investors and oversees trade associations.
Marc Heenan Head of Commercial Origination & Asset Management PeerStreet
Marc oversees the team that identifies and on-boards loan originators. Previously, Marc was First Vice President in OneWest Bank's Commercial Real Estate Group where he managed a team that sourced new originations in the Bank's $15-$40 million bridge lending program between 2013 and April 2015. Between 2011 and 2012, Marc oversaw a portfolio of distressed legacy commercial real estate loans for the Bank. Cortney Newmans Director of Business Development
Cortney is a 2011 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a double major in Consumer Economics and Real Estate. Cortney previously worked one year in the merchant services industry in outside sales, where he was recognized for being in the top 10% of company sales representatives. In 2012, Cortney kicked off his career in real estate with Lima One Capital where he accepted the position of Head of Business Development for Atlanta. Cortney was promoted to Director of Business Development for the company in 2014. He heads up the expansion for sales into 44 new states and over 75 new markets. Not only knowing the financing side of the business, Cortney is an active real estate investor himself, focusing on buying fixing, and selling of homes.
AJ Poulin Vice President of Sales The Mortgage Office
A.J. Poulin has helped implement Applied Business Software's (ABS) The Mortgage Office loan servicing software for hundreds of companies across the globe. His list of clients include the "who's who" of private lenders in the US. A.J. graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on computer software. Prior to ABS, A.J. wrote software at General Electric for defense contracts, and his projects included the F-16 Fighter Jet, the Apache Attack Helicopter, and the M-1 Tank. View Profile
Ray Sturm Co-Founder and CEO AlphaFlow
Ray Sturm is the Co-Founder and CEO of AlphaFlow, which helps investors build and manage real estate portfolios across the real estate crowdfunding industry. Prior to launching AlphaFlow, he co-founded RealtyShares where he led financial analysis and investor relations. His early career in finance included investment banking at Bear Stearns, restructuring at Lazard Fr?res and private equity at CCMP Capital. Founder and CEO of Fund That Flip, a venture backed real estate investment marketplace specializing in short-term loans for residential real estate rehabbers. He earned a finance degree from John Carroll University and is a Chartered Property Underwriter. Prior to founding Fund That Flip, Matt led sales and marketing for a $950M commercial property risk management firm.
